Over
the course of his career, Rodolfo Michel has gained an immense amount of
knowledge about the field of photography. While it is not for everyone, he does
believe many people can appreciate the work that goes into producing a powerful
image.
One
of the fundamental aspects of photography is understanding and utilizing
aperture correctly. Aperture is the opening in a lens that allows a certain
amount of light into the film or sensor. Different cameras have different
limits on their aperture measurement so Rodolfo Michel says it is important to
be aware of this when purchasing a camera.
If
you are a portrait photographer, Rodolfo Michel advises using a wide aperture
because if focuses on the subject matter, which is usually in the foreground.
However if you are more inclined to landscapes, a narrow aperture would be more
fitting because it allows focus on a broader scale.
Rodolfo
Michel works with both types of apertures, which one he uses simply depends on
his assignment at hand. He says once you know what your subject matter is,
deciding on aperture should come easily with enough practice. And once you’ve
got that down, the image will beautiful!
Of
course, other things come into play such as filters and lenses. But don’t
worry! Rodolfo Michel has a tip about those too.
In
regards to filters, he says start small... don’t collect too many! And if you
only buy one, Rodolfo Michel thinks it should be a circular polariser because
it makes colors more vibrant! When dealing with lenses, try to avoid ones that
rotate when zoom is adjusted because this will effect more than just the zoom
factor, thus negatively effecting the filter that you already worked so hard to
perfect! Rodolfo Michel says he had trouble with this a time or two himself, so
don’t fret if you struggle at first.
